Leader In Her Field!

Danna Guzman is a senior at Milwaukie Academy of the Arts. Despite the heavy workload she’s been given, since it’s her last year of high school, she has remained active in her community and in her out-of-school activities!
Over the summer, Danna attended the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine at the University of California, where she realized her love for the medical field.

“It was awesome,” she said, “I got to meet so many people from around the world, and it was an amazing experience.” It wasn’t easy to get there, though! “I had to raise $4000 in order to go. I made and sold Mexican desserts to fundraise the money.”

Danna and her family made tamales, pozole, tres leches cake, flan, roscas, and pan dulce. After many weeks of making and selling these treats, Danna was able to fly to Berkeley for the forum. There, she decided she wants to pursue a career as a pediatrician. Outside of medicine, Danna volunteers at her church and participates in their youth choir, while also tutoring Spanish and Chemistry.
